Het verhaal van: Jevgenijs Makarovs

Begin mei sloot Jevgenijs Makarovs (29) zich aan bij het team van De Waal Kozijnen. De Letse collega is afkomstig uit Riga en werkt in de afmontage van onze kunststof kozijnfabriek. “Ik ben hier gekomen om een stabiel leven op te bouwen,” vertelt hij. “En De Waal Kozijnen voelt als een plek waar dat kan.”
Van Letland naar Nederland
Met een achtergrond in metaalbewerking en ervaring via diverse uitzendbureaus, kwam Jevgenijs uiteindelijk bij De Waal Kozijnen terecht. In Letland zag hij de kansen steeds kleiner worden: “De economie gaat er al jaren op achteruit. Ik wilde iets anders, iets duurzaams – een toekomst.” Anderhalf jaar geleden besloot hij daarom te verhuizen naar Nederland. Sindsdien werkt hij hard aan die nieuwe start.
Zijn rol bij De Waal Kozijnen vindt hij afwisselend en leerzaam. “Ik sta bij het afmonteren in de hal waar onze kunststof kozijnen worden gemaakt. De ene dag ben ik bezig met glaslatten zagen, de andere dag help ik op een andere plek. Dat maakt het interessant.” Het werk ligt hem goed, en de overstap van metaal naar kunststof was voor hem logisch. “Veel is vergelijkbaar. Werken met je handen, oog voor detail, kwaliteit leveren.”
Toekomst in zicht
Op dit moment woont Jevgenijs alleen in Nederland. Zijn vrouw, afkomstig uit Sri Lanka, woont nog in Riga. “Mijn grote doel is dat zij naar Nederland kan komen. Ze is gewend om te reizen en staat er positief in. We willen hier samen een nieuw leven opbouwen.”
Die toewijding en toekomstgerichtheid zie je ook op de werkvloer. Jevgenijs heeft grote plannen: “Ik ben bezig met Nederlands leren en wil doorgroeien richting werkvoorbereiding. Daar zet ik alles op in. Ik wil vooruit, stap voor stap.”
Dankbaarheid en motivatie
De werksfeer bevalt hem goed. Hij werkt onder andere met collega’s Martijn, Edwin, Vidas, Mariette, Roberto en Igor en voelt zich onderdeel van het team. “Iedereen is vriendelijk en helpt elkaar. Er wordt echt interesse getoond. Dat waardeer ik enorm.”
Jevgenijs is niet alleen gemotiveerd, maar ook oprecht dankbaar: “Ik heb hier de kans gekregen om te bouwen aan mijn toekomst. Die kans ga ik volledig benutten.”
The story of: Jevgenijs Makarovs
In early May, Jevgenijs Makarovs (29) joined the team at De Waal Kozijnen. Originally from Riga, Latvia, Jevgenijs now works in the assembly department of our uPVC window and door production. “I came here to build a stable life,” he says. “And De Waal Kozijnen feels like the place where I can do that.”
From Latvia to the Netherlands
With a background in metalwork and experience through various employment agencies, Jevgenijs eventually found his way to De Waal Kozijnen. In Latvia, opportunities were becoming increasingly scarce: “The economy has been declining for years. I wanted something different, something more lasting — a future.” A year and a half ago, he made the decision to move to the Netherlands, and has been working hard on his fresh start ever since.
He finds his role at De Waal Kozijnen both varied and educational. “I work in the assembly area where our plastic frames are made. One day I’m cutting glazing beads, the next I’m helping out somewhere else. That keeps things interesting.” The job suits him well, and the transition from metal to plastic was a natural one for him: “There are many similarities — working with your hands, having an eye for detail, delivering quality.”
A future in sight
At the moment, Jevgenijs lives in the Netherlands on his own. His wife, originally from Sri Lanka, still lives in Riga. “My biggest goal is for her to come join me here. She’s used to traveling and is open to this new chapter. We want to build a life together here.”
That same drive and focus on the future is clear in his work. Jevgenijs has big plans: “I’m learning Dutch and aiming to grow into a role in work preparation. I’m fully committed to that. I want to keep moving forward, step by step.”
Gratitude and motivation
He enjoys the atmosphere at work and feels part of the team. He works closely with colleagues like Martijn, Edwin, Vidas, Mariette, Roberto, and Igor. “Everyone is friendly and willing to help. People take a genuine interest in each other — I really appreciate that.”
Jevgenijs is not only motivated, but deeply grateful: “I’ve been given the opportunity to build a future here. I’m going to make the most of it.”
